Many Americans probably find it hard to believe that an outdoor sport, such as cycling, has already started its season. As a few die hard cycling fans may be aware, however, the 2008 Tour of California is currently going on and is set to end tomorrow. There was an exciting sprint finish at the end of Stage 6 today, though.

Roger and Suzanne Smith became the first two Americans to sit through an entire Cricket game Sunday when they bought tickets to see Australia take on India. The match took place in Sydney, where Smith is vacationing with his wife Suzanne.

After two less than stellar years involving the Tour de France, several doping scandals involving top riders, and lack of a decent human-interest story, USA Cycling has voted to throw in the towel. This comes as a shock to many, since a large number of Americans were unaware that there were enough cyclists in the United States to form a governing body, much less an entire organization.

We all knew them. The high school sports hero’s who were the talk of the town and were constantly talked about in the papers and on small-hick radio. When the really big players left high school, some were immortalized through monument. Lake Travis High School in Austin, TX recently dedicated a life-size bronze statue of one of their Quarterbacks who graduated just last year. I would love to see what happens to that poor football player if he doesn’t make it very far in college and has to come back to Texas, only to be reminded that he once was on a path to sport super stardom, but now runs the car wash.
