Ricky Rudd Reveals Real Reason for Retiring
By Carol Pearson
Several months ago, NASCAR driver Ricky Rudd announced his retirement from the sport. While he cited the typical reasons given by most athletes (i.e. age, wanting to spend more time with family, etc.), the actual reason remained hidden until today.
At a press conference held in his backyard, he announced this afternoon that, “The truth is those guys drive too fast. Frankly, it’s getting kind-of scary. Sure, people may think it’s because I’m over the age of 50, but I’ve never been a fan of driving that quickly. I hate driving fast. I would much rather coast down a quiet country road at 10 miles per hour than zip around a track at close to 200.”
This revelation is causing many observers to scratch their heads since his career spanned about 30 years. Also confusing the issue, he placed pretty well in a good number of those races.
Rudd’s neighbor, Julia Sanborn said, “I can see maybe working at a job you hate for maybe a few months if you really need the money, but 30 years? I mean, surely he could have found something else in that amount of time.”
