NBA to Replay Entire 2006-2007 Season

By Thomas Mundt

NEW YORK, NY - NBA Commissioner David Stern announced Monday that the entire 2006-2007 season will be replayed, upon the conclusion of the 2008 Finals in June.  The announcement follows the Association’s recent decision to replay the final 51.9 seconds of December 19’s controversial Hawks-Heat contest.

“We figured that if we’re going to replay the end of one unremarkable, regular-season game, we might as well just replay an entire season,” explained Stern.  “We think a second shot at last year’s season will give everyone - players, refs, and fans alike - the chance to right a wrong here.”

“I mean, come on,” continued Stern.  “A Cavs-Spurs Finals?  That sort of egregious mistake cannot stand.  It threatens the integrity of our league.”

Commissioner Stern expressed hope that the 2006-2007 do-over will result in a more marketable match-up than last season’s Finals, one of the lowest-rated in several seasons.

“Who wouldn’t want to see a Mavs-Heat rematch?  Or, maybe a Suns-Pistons showdown.  The ultimate offense meets the consummate team?  There are so many possibilities,” mused Stern.

“The league simply cannot afford another borefest.”

There is also talk of the formation of an NBA Appellate Division, which would allow teams to replay portions of closely contested games.  Additionally, and according to a confidential league source, a reenactment of the infamous November 19, 2004 Pacers-Pistons brawl may be in the works.
