Dolphins Win, Set to Make Run for Super Bowl
Nick Maloney
The mighty Miami Dolphins knocked off the Baltimore Ravens yesterday to improve their record to 1-13 on the season. The team was feeling the confidence from the 22-16 overtime victory.
“We’re goin’ all the way man, this is our year. I can feel it now, it’s ours for the taking!” screamed defensive end Jason Taylor from his locker.
The win pulled Miami within 13 games of the division leading New England Patriots, and helped them bounce back from a 16 game losing streak dating back to last season. They are only eight games out of a possible spot in the playoffs as an AFC wild card berth.
“I think we just pretty much punched our ticket to the Super Bowl, no doubt man. We’re on an epic roll,” quarterback Cleo Lemmon said after throwing for 315 yards and a touchdown.
The win came in overtime after Ravens kicker Matt Stover blew a 44-yard field goal try that would have won the game for Baltimore.
“I felt bad for them, I missed it on purpose. Half those guys are on so much Prozac they probably wouldn’t feel me punch them in the face,” Stover said after the game.
Owner Wayne Huizenga gave head coach Cam Cameron an enormous vote of confidence following the game.
“I just talked to Cam and we’ve extended him for life. He’ll be the head coach here ‘til he dies. He’s earned it, no doubt in my mind.”
Huizenga was seen crying in the owner’s box after the pass from Cleo Lemon found Greg Camarillo on a slant that went for 64 yards and the winning score.
The victory made the Dolphins four point favorites next week at New England, an unbelievable turnaround from being disrespected all year.
“I really feel like we earned this win, and finally got the respect we deserved going into next week. I already booked our hotels in Arizona for the Super Bowl. I’d bet you we’ll be there,” Coach Cameron said.
Rumors of Huizenga selling the Dolphins persist, but unloading a team with a season as successful as the Dolphins are experiencing shouldn’t be hard, should it?
Huizenga was caught after the game celebrating.
“Buy low and sell high, right? If I’m going to cash in I might as well when we’re hot baby! Cha ching!”
Yeah Wayne, that’s the saying.
