Donovan McNabb Falls to Campbell’s Chunky Soup Curse
By Nick Maloney
He missed last Sunday night’s game against the Patriots in New England with a right ankle sprain and swollen thumb, an injury which most quarterbacks in one of the biggest games of the season, would have played with. Philly fans are starting to question their franchise quarterback, but he has laurels to fall back on.
Everyone’s heard of the Madden curse, but Donovan McNabb knows of another one. He was on the cover of Madden only once, but have you seen how he has struggled even in years he didn’t grace the cover? This writer has only one explanation: The Campbell’s Chunky Soup curse.
McNabb was on the cover of Madden NFL Football in 2006, but he started to suck long before then.
He became one of the faces for Campbell’s Chunky Soup in 2001, and it has kept him from winning a Super Bowl.
Sure he made it to the big game in 2004-05 season, but he threw up in the huddle late in the fourth quarter, probably because the soup he at prior to the game was too chunk and thus not sitting well.
Since then, he’s suffered a hernia that ended his season in 2005, and a torn ACL in 2006 that ended his year then as well. And way back in 2002, just a few short months after he joined up with Campbell’s he suffered a broken ankle and missed the last six games of the season. Need I say more? I think not.
Kurt Warner was also tabbed as a Chunky Soup spokesman in 2001, and what did he do that year? Made it to the Super Bowl to be staked as 14-point favorites versus New England only to blow the game and become a part of one of the greatest upsets in Super Bowl history.
These two men both have the ability to blame it all on Campbell’s, whose slogans are ironically, “Mm mm Good,” and “Campbell’s Soup and you: possibilities.”
Here’s one possibility: McNabb is done in Philly and has only the soup giant to blame.
